Good Day Everyone and welcome to my page. My name is Steve Lillard and I am running for Sheriff for Jackson County.
I was born and raised in Jackson County and have only left on two occasions. The first was when I was on active duty in the United State Army, and again when I was deployed for almost a year and a half in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I met my wife while going to college in Jackson County and we are raising our children here.
Overarching goal is to provide the best possible service to all citizens of Jackson County
-To be accessible to the public to ensure that lines of communication are open to promote a good exchange of information so that the needs of the citizens can be heard and addressed.
-Establish good working relationships with elected county officials, department and unit leaders and fellow law enforcement agencies through open communication and focusing on common goals.
-To ensure the needs of victims are being met and investigative progress is relayed to the victims in a timely manner.
-To provide better awareness and educational programming to the general public in an effort to prevent citizens from becoming victimized by new criminal techniques.
I have been fortunate to gain a great deal of experience in my time as a law enforcement officer in Jackson County. I worked as a criminal investigator for the Sylva Police Department, I have worked as a patrol officer, a detective, a captain and a major for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and I am currently the Assistant Chief of Police for the Western Carolina University Police Department. I feel that my range of experience and my knowledge of Jackson County have prepared me to further serve my community as the Sheriff. I have experience and an understanding of the administrative functions that come with this position, including budgeting, organizational structure, and management. I also have a willingness to serve the employees of the department to ensure they have the equipment and the training they need to provide the best service possible to the citizens of Jackson County.
